In a devastating incident, 12 people lost their lives in a fatal road traffic accident involving Trailer, three vehicles at Peke, along the Olooru-Okoolowo, Ogbomoso Route, in Kwara.
The vehicles involved were a petrol tanker, a trailer, and an 18-seater bus.
The accident, which occurred due to a route violation, involved 21 males and one female.
Tragically, 12 of the victims were burned beyond recognition and lost their lives, while the remaining 10 sustained various degrees of injuries and were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
The Kwara sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Corps Commander Stephen Dawulung, confirmed the unfortunate accident.
He explained that the empty IVECO Trailer, tanker coming from Okoolowo committed a route violation en route to Ogbomoso, leading to a head-on collision with an oncoming DAF truck, which ignited the fire.
The bus, which was on its way to Katsina, was behind the DAF truck.
However, due to the driver’s excessive speed, the bus was unable to stop in time and rammed into the crash.

The burnt victims were given a mass burial with the authority of the Hausa Community of Okoolowo.
Mr. Dawulung expressed deep sympathy with the families of the deceased and wished the injured a quick recovery.
He advised drivers to avoid taking the wrong lanes, driving at excessive speeds on night journeys, and maintaining a safe distance between vehicles to enable them to manoeuvre whenever the need arises.
He reiterated that investigation officers had commenced a full investigation into the crash, assuring that the command was committed to ensuring the safety of all road users.
