The Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led government announced on Monday that 128 individuals traveling from Abuja to various destinations in the North have availed themselves of a 50% discount on their transport fares.

The Federal Ministry of Transportation, as stated in a press release by its Director of Press and Public Relations, reported that the Situation Room Monitoring Team observed this development.

The team noted that drivers operating on inter-state routes had been adhering to Tinubu’s directive by implementing the prescribed discount.

The statement further clarified that travelers from Abuja destined for locations in the North, including Gombe, Bauchi, Yola, and Maiduguri, have been transported to their respective destinations, paying only half of the usual transport fares for each leg of their journey.

The statement said, “As ALBON co-opts NURTW, implementing 50% discount on transport fares at Yuletide gets a boost, 128 Nigerians enjoy Tinubu’s Renewed Hope discount on Christmas Day.

“Implementing the directive of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s for 50% discount on transport fares for Nigerians during the yuletide got a serious boost, especially as one hundred and twenty-eight travellers from Abuja who were bound for destinations in the North—Gombe, Bauchi, Yola and Maiduguri—were freighted to their destinations, paying only half of the transport fares charged for each of their destinations, as monitored by Federal Ministry of Transportation Situation Room Monitoring Team on Christmas Day.

“Thanks to the proactive efforts of the Association of Luxury Bus Owners, travellers were able to enjoy a significant reduction in their transportation costs, with Clement Okuefuna overseeing the disbursement of the reimbursements at the Area 1 motor park in Abuja.

“Notably, ALBON’s collaboration with the National Union of Road Transport Workers has effectively ensured that passengers are promptly refunded half of their fare payments upon boarding designated vehicles, thereby making the President’s transport palliative a reality.”

“The last 16-seater passenger bus, which loaded, got its passengers refunded half of the transport fares paid back to them, and heading for Bauchi and Maiduguri rounded off the operation at Area 1 Motor Park, Abuja,” the statement added.

SaharaReporters disclosed that Tinubu has authorized a 50% reduction in inter-state transport fares for Nigerians during the Yuletide season, spanning from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024.

Moreover, the Tinubu has granted complimentary rides for passengers on all train services throughout this period.

The announcement of these initiatives was made by Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development and Chairman of the inter-ministerial committee on presidential intervention, during a briefing with State House correspondents at the Aso Rock Villa.
