A Jeju Air plane carrying 181 passengers and crew crash-landed at Muan International Airport in South Korea, leaving 179 people presumed dead.
The crash occurred as the aircraft, en route from Bangkok, veered off the runway, struck a wall, and exploded upon impact.
South Korean authorities have confirmed 96 fatalities so far, while search and rescue operations are ongoing.
“Jeju Air will spare no effort to respond to the accident,” Jeju Air disclosed in a statement.
“We are currently working to determine the exact cause and details of the situation,” an official of Jeju Air said. “The aircraft has been in operation for 15 years with no history of accidents.”
Jeju Air expressed profound regret over the tragedy. “We deeply apologize to all those affected by the incident at Muan Airport. We will make every effort to resolve the situation. We sincerely regret the distress caused,” said the statement posted on Jeju Air’s website.
An official from Jeju Air disclosed that the aircraft had been in operation for 15 years with no prior history of accidents. The airline pledged to thoroughly investigate the cause of the crash and provide full support to the bereaved families.
Jeju Air’s CEO emphasized that assisting the victims’ families would be the company’s top priority moving forward.
