20 Killed in Head-on Collision between two Vehicles in South Africa

In South Africa’s Limpopo region on Sunday, a bus carrying at least 20 people, largely mine workers, burst into flames after colliding head-on with a vehicle, according to official media.

Twenty individuals were declared dead on the spot, according to the Limpopo Transport Department, and two more passed away in the hospital. Both the number of passengers and the existence of any survivors are currently unknown.

The important route between Musina town and Venetia mine in the northern Limpopo province is where the collision occurred, the transport department noted.

According to preliminary accounts cited by the deceased mine workers’ employer, Murray and Roberts Company, 18 of its employees who were “traveling to the Venetia mine” perished in the disaster.

The Venetia mine produces the most diamonds in South Africa.

Social media users released videos of the bus crash scene that showed victims lying on the ground in various positions and a cloud of black smoke emerging from the bus.

The transport division of Limpopo stated that it would go to the mine “to get a full report regarding the accident.”

This is the second bus accident with significant casualties to occur in the province of Limpopo this year. Officials reported at the time that a head-on collision between a bus and a cash-in-transit vehicle in February claimed the lives of about 20 people.
