20 People Killed, Houses Destroyed as Terrorists Launch Fresh Attack in Plateau Community

No fewer than 20 people have reportedly been killed in a fresh attack by terrorists on Jebu, a community in Tahos, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.

According to Leadership, the assailants stormed the village late Monday night, firing indiscriminately at residents.

Several others were said to have sustained varying degrees of injuries, while houses were also set ablaze during the raid.

Sources familiar with the incident said the wounded are currently receiving treatment in different hospitals across the local government area.

Confirming the attack, Chairman and Publicity Secretary of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), Gideon Manjal and Gadu Daniel Dong, revealed in a joint statement on Tuesday, July 15, that the gunmen struck around 11 p.m., targeting innocent residents including women, children, and the elderly.

They urged security agencies to urgently intervene, apprehend the perpetrators, and bring them to justice.

They said, “Our people are being buried daily, we are tired of condolence visits and silence. We are tired of press statements that do not translate to protection.”

The statement also noted that other communities in Plateau state including Jol, Rim, Bachi, Wereng and Nding which were previously attacked also deserve more than sympathy.
