Imo StateThe General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Emmanuel Ugboaja, has revealed that workers in Imo State have gone without salaries for over three and a half years.
He said this in an interview recently on Arise TV.
Describing their plight as dehumanizing, Ugboaja emphasized the urgency of addressing the issue and criticized the labeling of these workers as “ghost workers.
He stated, “For over three and half years, workers in Imo State have been dehumanized, they have been without salaries; they have been called ghost workers; why hasn’t anybody put the issue of the employees on the front burner?” He asked.

During the interface, Ugboaja called on the federal government to respect the tripod system of social dialogue, highlighting the importance of open discussions rather than avoidance.
He stressed the need for a safe work environment and underscored the fundamental principle that a worker is worthy of their wages.
The general secretary added, “We expect the federal government to respect the tripod system of social dialogue,to appreciate the need for discussion and not avoidance, to appreciate the need for a safe work environment, and to appreciate the need that staffs are worthy of their wages,” he concluded.
