Yuletide: Over 50,000 Nigerian Soldiers Sacrifice Festivities for National Duty, Ensuring Security – Army Chief Discloses

Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff, has revealed that over 50,000 Nigerian soldiers will be foregoing Christmas celebrations as they remain stationed in challenging and remote regions across the country and beyond.

Despite their yearning to be with their families during this festive season, these soldiers play a pivotal role in securing communities and maintaining stability in difficult-to-access areas.

Brig.-Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director of Army Public Relations, conveyed the Chief of Army Staff’s appreciation for the soldiers’ unparalleled commitment and selfless service.

Lagbaja acknowledged the soldiers’ sacrifice during the celebratory season, emphasizing their unwavering resolve in safeguarding regions within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.

Looking ahead, Gen. Lagbaja expressed optimism for the coming year, anticipating positive prospects for Nigeria and the Army. He disclosed plans for the Nigerian Army to receive helicopters and other combat enablers, enhancing the overall security environment in the country.

The Army Headquarters has also initiated welfare projects aimed at directly impacting the lives of soldiers and their families.

Recognizing the troops’ well-being as a top priority, Gen. Lagbaja reassured them of continuous efforts to provide the necessary resources for effective duty execution.

He emphasized collaboration with Sister Services, the Nigeria Police Force, and other security agencies to create and maintain a peaceful, safe, and secure environment for the country’s socio-economic development.
