‘I Can’t Travel to See My Family With 50k Salary, Transport Fare is 70k,’ Nigerian Soldier Laments

A Nigerian soldier serving in Maiduguri, Borno State, has expressed his frustration over the low salary and high transport cost that prevent him from visiting his family.

The soldier, who did not reveal his name, said he had spent one year in the bush fighting insurgents and was given a pass to go home and see his loved ones.

However, he was shocked to discover that the transport fare from Maiduguri to his town was N35,000, which is more than half of his monthly salary of N50,000.

He said he could not afford to pay N70,000 for a round trip and still have enough money to take care of his family’s needs.
