The Abia State Government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property, with a renewed focus on tackling insecurity across the state.
Speaking during a press briefing on Monday at the Government House in Umuahia, the Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kanu, emphasised that security remains a top priority of the administration, particularly as the Yuletide season approaches.
“The present administration will continue to take the security of lives and property in Abia very seriously. Also, as the Yuletide season approaches, the state government wishes to assure citizens that it will stop at nothing to ensure that lives and property are protected,” he stated.
As part of its security strategy, Mr. Kanu announced the launch of the Nigerian Army’s new operation code-named ‘Udo Ka.’ The operation aims to enhance peace and security across Abia, especially during the festive period.
“This means in the days and weeks ahead, the security agencies will be very visible around the state. We are assuring the people of Abia that the security agents are out there for their own good and security.
“All the government requires from the citizens is to cooperate with them and offer necessary information about security breaches and movement of suspected criminals in the state,” Mr Kanu added.
In addition to security measures, Kanu disclosed that all medical outreaches in the state must now receive approval from the Ministry of Health through the commissioner, a policy aimed at improving health sector oversight.

On housing, the commissioner announced the launch of a new programme called the ‘Public Buildings Initiative.’ The initiative will focus on rehabilitating dilapidated public buildings across the state to make them functional.
