#FreeFisayoNow: ‘We Can’t Have Lawless Society Where Journalists Are Harassed’ – Rufai Oseni

Renowned Nigerian journalist and broadcaster Rufai Oseni has condemned the arrest and detention of investigative journalist Fisayo Soyombo by the Nigerian Army.

He criticized the growing trend of harassment faced by journalists in the country, emphasizing the importance of press freedom in a democratic society.

Oseni made the statement on his Twitter handle, calling for an end to the intimidation of media professionals.

He wrote, ” #FreeFisayoNow we can’t have a lawless society where journalists are harassed

Fisayo Soyombo, the founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), was reportedly arrested three days ago by the 6th Division of the Nigerian Army in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

His detention is believed to be connected to his investigative reporting on corruption and smuggling activities allegedly involving the Nigerian Customs Service.

The FIJ has since confirmed Soyombo’s arrest and raised concerns about the increasing threats to press freedom in Nigeria.

Oseni joined the growing list of voices calling for Soyombo’s freedom.
