Special Assistant on Public Communication to former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Phrank Shaibu, has criticized Chief Bola Tinubu over his recent remarks on Nigeria’s economic state.
Speaking during the 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies of the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Tinubu, represented by University of Ilorin Vice-Chancellor Wahab Egbewole, stated that the previous “good life” Nigerians experienced was unsustainable and threatened the country’s stability.
Tinubu justified his administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of petrol subsidies and exchange rate unification, as necessary measures to prevent a national economic collapse.
Reacting on X, Shaibu condemned Tinubu’s policies, claiming they have left Nigerians in economic hardship.
He stated, “If the good life before subsidy removal was fake, then this ‘real’ life must be the plot of a very bad Nollywood drama written by Mr. T-Pain.
“Can we at least get a refund on the script or take us back to living in the ‘fake’ world-at least we could afford to fake smiles back then.
“Now we’re stuck frowning in this ‘authentic’ struggle where our pockets are on life support,” he added.
Recall that Tinubu announced the removal of petrol subsidies during his May 29, 2023, inauguration, citing it as a critical step to secure the future of Nigeria. The policy has since faced widespread criticism due to the financial strain it has placed on Nigerians.
