Renowned journalist and broadcaster Oseni Rufai has revealed that the offense Dele Farotimi was accused of does not exist in the laws of Ekiti State, where he was charged to court and detained.
Recall that the Nigerian journalist, Dele Farotimi was arrested and unlawfully detained by the Ekiti Magistrate court for allegedly defaming Afe Babalola.
However, in a post shared on his official X handle, Rufai disclosed that both criminal libel or defamation doesn’t exist in Ekiti State laws.
His post reads,”Criminal libel or defamation doesn’t exist in Ekiti Laws. So Dele is arrested and bundled to Ekiti for a law that doesn’t exist in Ekiti state laws???
Reacting to this development, netizens have expressed their disappointment in the Nigeria’s corrupt system.

Mgbojikwe Peter Obi Yusuf Datti wrote,”It will be added today and backdated to the date the arrest was made.”
“Don’t worry, by tomorrow morning, the law will be passed. Nigeria is a magic place,”Chuks Kitchen tweeted.
“The same criminality he wrote about in his book,”Wilfred added.
Another X user, Tobi Akinbo J. wrote,”And the man who did this, is a SAN, glorified as a legal luminary.
