The Archbishop of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Lagos, Most Rev. Isaac Ayo Olawuyi, has advocated for the election of a Muslim governor in Lagos State in 2027.
Speaking at the 22nd Annual Thanksgiving Service of the Lagos House of Assembly, themed The Voice of Mercy, the Archbishop noted that by 2027, Christians would have held the governorship for 12 consecutive years.
The event was highlighted in a statement by Eromosele Ebhomele, Chief Press Secretary to Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
The Archbishop underscored the importance of religious tolerance and proposed that it is time for a Muslim to lead the state.

He pointed out that Akinwunmi Ambode and Babajide Sanwo-Olu, both Christians, will have collectively governed Lagos for 12 years—Ambode serving a single term from 2015 to 2019 after a political fallout, and Sanwo-Olu expected to complete two terms by 2027.
The Archbishop stated, “It would be 12 years in 2027 that we have been in the system together, and we have had Christians as governors. Now, it’s time to give our Muslim brothers a chance to govern us in Lagos State.”
It should be recalled that from 1999 to 2015, Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Babatunde Fashola, both Muslims, served as governors of Lagos State.
