Tinubu’s Policies Pathway to Poverty – PDP Governor, Oborevwori Slams APC -Led Govt

Delta State Governor, Chief Sheriff Oborevwori, has criticized the economic policies of Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s APC-led government, branding them a “pathway to poverty” for Nigerians.

In a sharp rebuke, Oborevwori blamed the widespread hunger, poverty, and rising unemployment in the country on the administration’s economic decisions, particularly the removal of the petroleum subsidy and the floating of the Naira.

He contended that while the policies were intended to spur growth, they have instead fueled inflation and drastically devalued the Naira, eroding any anticipated benefits.

The Governor’s remarks came in response to statements by former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, who had lauded Tinubu’s economic strategies during an APC event.

Omo-Agege accused Oborevwori of mismanaging Delta State’s resources despite receiving substantial federal allocations.

In a pointed rebuttal, Governor Oborevwori questioned the relevance of increased federal allocations in the face of unchecked inflation and deepening poverty. He cited reports from the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which have criticized the administration’s policies, emphasizing that Nigeria now holds the grim title of the world’s poverty capital, with over 130 million citizens living below the poverty line.

Oborevwori also dismissed Omo-Agege’s praise for the APC government, saying, “Is this the model that Omo-Agege is recommending for Delta to copy? A model that has unleashed economic hardship on the people?”

The governor concluded by stressing that Delta State would not adopt the economic model pursued by the APC, which he argued has only deepened the suffering of Nigerians.
