Oyo kingmakers Sue governor

A fresh suit has been filed by the Oyo kingmakers (Oyomesi) against Governor Seyi Makinde and two others over the vacant stool of Alaafin of Oyo. The suit was adjourned for hearing by the Awe Division of the Oyo High Court until December 14.

The other defendants in the suit are the attorney general and the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters. The claimants are five kingmakers who hold the titles of Basorun, Lagunna, Akinniku, Aare Ago Basorun and Baale Alapo. They are represented by their lead counsel, Kazeem Sobaloju.

The suit was filed on Thursday after the withdrawal and striking out of a similar case by the court. The kingmakers are seeking an interim injunction to maintain the status quo despite the notice of preliminary objection filed by the defence counsel. They have also filed a counter affidavit to the notice of preliminary objection.
