Wike Strips Buhari, Okorocha, Dino Melaye, Others of Abuja Land Plots Over Unpaid Fees

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked 762 plots of land in Maitama 1 District, Abuja, due to the failure of owners to pay for their Certificates of Occupancy (C-of-O).

The affected properties include plots owned by notable individuals such as former President Muhammadu Buhari, former Chief Justice of Nigeria Walter Onnoghen, ex-governors Rochas Okorocha, Ben Ayade, and Seriake Dickson, as well as current and former lawmakers Dino Melaye, Enyinnaya Abaribe, and Abdul Ningi.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) announced that the revocation was in line with Section 28 of the Land Use Act of 1978, which allows for the withdrawal of land rights when the terms of grant are violated.

Additionally, Wike issued a two-week ultimatum to 614 other landowners to settle their outstanding fees or risk losing their Rights of Occupancy (R-of-O).

The FCTA emphasized that the revocation followed the expiration of a grace period previously granted by the minister to allow allottees to pay their dues.
