JUST IN: Tinubu Blames Organisers of Palliative Distribution for Fatal Stampedes in Ibadan, Anambra, Abuja

Bola Tinubu has blamed the organisers of palliative distribution events in three Nigerian cities, where fatal stampedes resulted in the loss of over 60 lives, including children.

The tragic incidents occurred in Ibadan, Okija, and Abuja, as residents desperately tried to get their hands on groceries being shared by the organisers.

According to reports, the stampedes were a result of the desperation and hunger that has gripped the nation, with many blaming the government’s economic policies for the worsening situation.

However, Tinubu on Monday during his first Presidential Media Chat said, “I see this as a “very grave error” on the part of the organisers.”

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has also weighed in, accusing the government of “weaponising poverty” and creating an environment where citizens are forced to risk their lives for basic necessities.

Amnesty International has also condemned the government’s handling of the situation, urging them to take immediate action to address the socio-economic conditions that led to the tragedies.
