A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Jesutega Onokpasa, has attributed the stampedes at centers distributing Christmas palliative rice across the country to government failure.
Onokpasa expressed disappointment that Bola Tinubu’s administration has not fulfilled its promise of ensuring food availability for all citizens.
Speaking during an interview with Channels TV on Tuesday, Onokpasa, a staunch supporter of Tinubu, emphasized the urgent need for the government to address hunger in the nation.
Describing the stampedes in Okija, Ibadan, and Maitama as tragic, the APC chieftain urged the Bola Tinubu to prioritize reducing the high cost of food.
“The stampede is most unfortunate. The lives that were lost may they rest in peace. I think the real problem is that we have just failed woefully in producing food for our citizens. When we were campaigning for this administration, the people were calling us Agbadorians. Because our president was always talking about producing food. Unfortunately, we don’t seem to be able to produce the food.

“We just have to accept that’s our fault. The good thing about agriculture is that you can plant a crop today and harvest in three months, in six months, in one year. We try to convince our president to concentrate on food production.
“Even if we cannot reduce the price of petrol or whatever else, let our people have food to eat. Let our citizens have food to eat. It’s a shame that we have allowed prices to skyrocket, especially of food. Let people just have food to eat. That’s my take on it,” Onokpasa said.
