In a bid to ensure safer roads during the upcoming yuletide season, the Akwa Ibom State Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) commenced its 2023 ember months campaign.

The campaign aims to enlighten motorists about the perils of disregarding traffic regulations, particularly during the festive period.

The event took place at the Itam short-distance motor park in Uyo, the state capital.

Speaking, the FRSC Corps Marshal, Mr. Dauda Biu, stressed the importance of avoiding overloading and overspeeding, noting that commercial drivers, who are often guilty of such violations, must immediately cease such practices as they jeopardize the lives and belongings of passengers.

Biu, represented by Mr. Ogbonna Okwara, the Deputy Sector Commander of Rivers State, issued a clarion call to society, emphasizing the need for vigilance during this season when there is typically a surge in the number of people and vehicles on the roads.

This campaign seeks to make the roadways safer for all and reduce the risk of accidents during the festive season.

“It is on this note that motorists should drive within the prescribed speed limit and they must be conscious enough to avoid reckless driving and also carry out maintenance on their vehicles before putting them on the road.”

In an earlier statement, Akwa Ibom State Sector Commander, Matthew Olonisaye, conveyed through Deputy Corps Marshal Philip Ayodele that the corps would guarantee motorists fully adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
