Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed concerns about threats to his life and family following his New Year message, which he says has sparked significant backlash.
In a statement shared on his X handle, Obi revealed that his message prompted various reactions, including an accusation by Mr. Felix Morka, who claimed he had “crossed the line” and warned of consequences.
“I ask the question: Have I really crossed the line?” Obi stated. “While I have received all sorts of messages, Mr. Morka’s accusation and warning stand out. I find it necessary to share this message again and urge everyone who has not seen it to watch.”
Obi provided a link to the video, urging the public to assess the message for themselves: Watch the video here.
The former Anambra State governor maintained that he remains committed to upholding decorum but will not be silenced in his quest to speak truthfully about Nigeria’s challenges. He warned of an alarming shift toward authoritarianism, where freedom of expression is under threat.
“If I have truly crossed the line, I invite anyone to point it out, as I remain committed to upholding decorum. However, I will not be silenced in my resolve to speak truthfully, especially as our nation continues to drift toward undemocratic practices,” he said.
