Tax Bill: We Cannot Support Reforms That Encourage Societal Divisions – Northern Group Tells Tinubu

The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has expressed strong opposition to the proposed tax reform bills, urging a comprehensive overhaul to prevent further societal divisions.

Speaking during a town hall meeting at Gombe State University, which brought together civil society organizations and key stakeholders, the National Coordinator of CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, criticized the proposed tax increases.

He called for alternative measures that would not exacerbate the financial burden on Nigerians already facing economic hardship.

Charanchi appealed to parliamentary leaders to engage with federating units, civil societies, and academia before passing the reforms, ensuring inclusive consultations.

Reinforcing the group’s stance, the Gombe State Coordinator of CNG, Comrade Muhammed Umar Deba, emphasized the need for a transparent revenue-sharing formula and data-driven policy decisions.
