Japa: Nigerians in UK Increase from 90,000 to 178,000, New Data Shows; Ranks Nigeria as Only African Country in Top Ten

A new report from the German online platform Statista reveals that the number of Nigerians residing in the United Kingdom rose from 90,000 in 2008 to 178,000 in 2021.

This nearly doubled over the span of a decade, positioning Nigeria as the ninth-largest country of origin for the UK’s foreign population.

The report shows that Poland had the highest number of nationals in the UK as of 2021, with 696,000 Polish citizens living there.

India ranked second with 370,000, followed by the Republic of Ireland with an identical number. Italy and Romania held the fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with 342,000 citizens each.

Portugal, Spain, and Pakistan ranked seventh, eighth, and ninth with 268,000, 206,000, and 181,000 citizens living in the UK.

Nigeria, as the only African country in the top ten, ranked ninth, while the United States, with 166,000 citizens, completed the list of the top ten countries with the largest populations in the UK.
