In a recent social media post, Darkoo criticized P-Square singer Peter for his part in the YouTube music video for “Focus on me” being taken down.
In a recent social media post, well-known Nigerian rapper Darkoo criticized Peter Okoye, one half of the renowned group P-Square, for his role in removing her rendition of “Do Me” called “Focus on Me.”
In a recent social media post, Darkoo disclosed that her labours were ruined when the “Focus on Me” video was removed for six days due to copyright violations.
She contacted all parties and asked for the appropriate authorization to release the song, revealing that she had not in any way infringed upon P-Square’s copyrights.
Darkoo continued by saying that Peter Okoye had removed the video because he wanted to be on the song himself. She had declined, but she pondered it in case a remix was released.
Her statement on social media read, “I wasn’t going to say anything, but my music video was taken down for six days by Peter of P-Square in an attempt to sabotage the song completely. Fortunately, the video is back up now. Let me be clear: I had all the necessary clearance for the sample. This isn’t my first rodeo using a sample, as you know, and I did everything by the book.”
“To put things into perspective, they are receiving 50%—rightfully so. Yet, Mr. Peter wanted to be featured on the song and even created his own verse for it. He told me not to speak to or clear the sample with his brothers, Jude and Paul (who, by the way, have been incredibly helpful in resolving the issues). He claimed they would bring “unnecessary problems” for me.”

“However, as soon as the song dropped, Mr. Peter completely switched on me. He began causing problems because he wanted to be featured on the track. Although I intended to have him on the remix, I guess that wasn’t enough. Instead, he chose to act out of anger, manipulate the situation, and attempt to sabotage the song simply because I didn’t bow to his demands.”
“He took my video down, not for reasons related to copyright or contracts, but because he didn’t get what he wanted (to be featured). He even told my team that I had “disrespected him,” which is why he took action. His actions have hurt me deeply, affecting my fans, ruining my hard work, and wasting the time and money invested. It’s heartbreaking because I grew up admiring him, and to see someone I once looked up to actively trying to hurt me and block my success is incredibly painful.”
” For the record: I had the clearance, contracts, and paperwork from P-Square. I went above and beyond to ensure their rights were respected and handled everything correctly with the right people, covering all contributors. This isn’t how our OGs are supposed to behave. It’s sad and disappointing.”
