INEC Confirms Rigging Attempt in Kogi Governorship Election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it is investigating the alleged rigging attempt in the Kogi governorship election held on Saturday.

According to a reports, some pre-recorded election result sheets were discovered in Okehi local government area of the state, showing that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won all the votes in some polling units.

The report also claimed that APC agents were offering voters money and bribing other parties’ agents to sign the fake result sheets.

INEC, in a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) handle, said it viewed the situation seriously and had deployed its senior officials to the state to investigate the incident(s).

The statement read: “Our attention has been drawn to a report that filled result sheets were discovered in some polling units in Kogi State. The Commission (INEC) views this situation seriously. Our senior officials deployed to the State are currently investigating the incident(s). The Commission will communicate its decision earnestly.”

The Kogi governorship election was marred by violence, intimidation, and irregularities, as reported by various observers and media outlets. The incumbent governor, Yahaya Bello of APC, is seeking a second term in office, while his main challenger is Musa Wada of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
