Incoming First Lady Melania Trump has announced the launch of her cryptocurrency, “Official Melania Meme” ($MELANIA), on the eve of her husband Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States.
This move follows President-elect Donald Trump’s introduction of his own cryptocurrency, $Trump, which has a current market valuation of approximately $12 billion, compared to $MELANIA’s $1.7 billion, according to CoinMarketCap.
Melania shared the announcement on the platform X, stating, “The Official Melania Meme is live! You can buy $MELANIA now.” The cryptocurrency, tracked on the Solana blockchain, is accompanied by disclaimers noting that both $Trump and $MELANIA coins are “not intended to be, or the subject of, an investment opportunity or a security.”
This development marks a shift in Donald Trump’s stance on digital assets. Previously dismissing cryptocurrency as a “scam,” Trump embraced the technology during his 2024 campaign, becoming the first U.S. presidential candidate to accept digital assets as campaign donations.
He also announced plans to create a strategic bitcoin stockpile and appoint financial regulators with a positive outlook on digital assets, signaling a potential reduction in regulatory constraints on the crypto industry.
