According to Festus Osifo, president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), it could be hard for those making N200,000 a month to make ends meet.
He claims that while N200,000 was a significant sum a few years ago, it is now worth less in the grand scheme of things.
This was said by the TUC President, Osifo during his guest appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, when he talked about the government’s efforts to help the poor.
“Some four to five years ago, you could say this is relatively huge amount of money but today when you talk about N200,000, it’s a far cry to what the value was as at even two years ago.
“That is why we feel that people in that bracket, things are difficult for them,” he said.
According to him, “Someone earning N2,500,000 annually in Nigeria today is relatively poor…. If you earn N208,000 monthly, you might spend half of that money on transportation costs, then you now talk of housing and clothing, it may be difficult for one to live.”
According to the DAILY POST, the Association of Arewa Yoruba Youths (AAYY) has urged the federal government to cover the JAMB registration fees for all qualified students as part of its recommendations on how to lessen the suffering of the populace.
