INEC Officials Held Hostage in Brass LGA, Bayelsa, Commission Urges Swift Police Action

Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) are reported to have been held hostage in the Brass Local Government Area (LGA) of Bayelsa State.

The incident was disclosed in a statement released by the commission on Sunday, November 12, and posted on their official X platform.

The statement expressed concern about the unfolding situation and emphasized its potential impact on the integrity of upcoming elections.

INEC called upon the police and other security agencies to promptly investigate the matter and ensure the swift release of the detained officials.

The statement stated, “Unfolding Situation in Brass Local Government Area. The Commission is closely watching the situation in Brass LGA of Bayelsa State, where our officials are held hostage.”

“This is detrimental to credible elections. We call on the security agencies to immediately facilitate their release,” the commission added.
