Those Who Insulted Tinubu/Shettima Ticket Should Apologize, Claims of Oppression Under Their Government Proven False – Bashir Ahmad Tells Nigerians

Bashir Ahmad, former media aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has called on those who opposed Bola Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim presidency to apologise.

Ahmad made this statement in response to remarks by Yakubu Pam, Chairman of the Northern Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), who recently claimed that Christians are experiencing a better quality of life under Tinubu’s government.

Speaking on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, January 29, Pam stated that discrimination and persecution faced by Christians in previous administrations have decreased. His comments align with his recent praise of Tinubu’s leadership, despite his initial opposition during the 2023 election campaign.

CAN had previously rejected Tinubu’s Muslim-Muslim ticket, arguing that such a move could deepen religious divisions in the country. However, addressing journalists on Saturday, Pam commended the president for fostering inclusivity in his administration.

Following Pam’s remarks, Ahmad urged those who criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress’ (APC) decision to present an all-Muslim ticket in the 2023 elections to retract their statements.

Reacting to Vanguard’s report on Pam’s claims, Ahmad dismissed the notion that the Muslim-Muslim presidency was a strategy to Islamise Nigeria or oppress non-Muslims.

He wrote: “Those who insulted us for supporting the Tinubu/Shettima ticket should come forward and apologize. The claims that a Muslim/Muslim presidency would oppress them or Islamize the country have proven to be yet another falsehood.”
