The 42nd edition of the Federal Civil Service Games, scheduled to take place from December 4th to 14th, 2023, is set to host no fewer than 10,000 delegates from federal, state, and local government civil services.
The games will be held in Niger State, as announced by the state’s Head of Civil Service (HoS), Salisu Abubakar.
The right to host the games was granted to Niger State by the Head of Service of the Federation. This was followed by a directive from Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to introduce bi-monthly physical fitness exercises aimed at preparing the state’s workers for the competition.
The decision to host the games, according to Abubakar, is part of an effort to encourage senior cadre civil servants to be physically and mentally fit for their jobs.

He stated, “We are encouraging interested civil servants interested in different sporting activities to prepare for the civil service games.
The state is eager to reclaim its top place in medal winnings starting with the coming civil service games.”
Abubakar also highlighted the socio-economic benefits the state stands to gain from hosting the week-long event.
The games will feature a variety of sporting events, including football, handball, athletics, squash, karate, judo, scrabble, boxing, badminton, tennis, chess, and basketball.
The event marks a significant milestone in Niger State’s efforts to promote physical fitness among its civil servants and reclaim its position in the sporting arena.
