In a scathing critique of the recent gubernatorial election in Imo State, Athan Achonu, the Labour Party’s candidate, has lambasted the process as a “disgrace” and an affront to democratic principles.
Speaking on Arise News on Sunday, Achonu raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, alleging that the Biometric Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was conspicuously absent in a staggering 70% of polling units.

While he acknowledged the efforts of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), he berated the nefarious activities of certain elements intent on sabotaging the democratic process.
The former senator has not taken these allegations lightly and has called for the annulment of the election results.
He further accused security operatives of being in cahoots with the ruling All Progressives Congress. Undeterred by these challenges, Achonu has pledged to seek justice in the courts.
This development follows the Labour Party’s outright rejection of the election results from last Saturday.
The party has resolved to pursue legal action against both INEC and the incumbent governor, Hope Uzodimma.
