The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed claims that its operatives are responsible for most house break-ins across Nigeria.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, stated that many of these incidents are carried out by impersonators seeking to tarnish the agency’s reputation.
Speaking in a recent video shered on X formerlyTwitter, Oyewale stressed that fraudsters often disguise as EFCC officials to discredit the commission’s efforts in fighting financial crimes.
“I am telling you, most times, those breaking into houses are not EFCC officials,” Oyewale said.
“I have had several calls about these incidents, and in many cases, it turns out that these are individuals posing as EFCC operatives.

Some of these kids you see online are the ones carrying out such acts.” He emphasized that the EFCC remains committed to lawful and professional operations, distancing the agency from unauthorized raids and misconduct.
Oyewale urged Nigerians to be vigilant and report suspicious activities involving individuals claiming to be EFCC officials.
He assured the public that the commission is working to clamp down on impostors while continuing its mandate to combat corruption and financial crimes.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over reports of unlawful home invasions allegedly linked to the EFCC.
