The legal team representing TikToker Olumide Ogunsanwo, popularly known as “SeaKing,” has threatened legal action against Pastor Enoch Adeboye and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) over a public statement issued by the church regarding their client’s recent arrest.
Lead counsel Inibehe Effiong has given RCCG 24 hours to retract its statement, warning that failure to do so would result in a lawsuit and potential court testimony from Pastor Adeboye.
SeaKing was granted administrative bail after being detained by the Nigeria Police Force’s Cybercrimes Unit in Abuja. His arrest followed a court appearance at the Magistrate Court in Ogba, Lagos, on February 6, 2025, after which he was flown to Abuja.
The controversy deepened after RCCG issued a public statement claiming that Pastor Adeboye was not behind the petition that led to SeaKing’s arrest but supported the legal process initiated by a group called the “Concerned Christian Youth Forum.”
Effiong dismissed this stance, arguing that cyberstalking and defamation cases cannot be pursued through proxies.
He insisted that since Adeboye had initially distanced himself from the case, RCCG’s recent statement amounted to a “capitulation” and an attempt to justify an illegal arrest.

According to Effiong, SeaKing’s fundamental rights have already been violated due to unlawful detention beyond the legally permissible timeframe.
He accused RCCG of aligning itself with a “busybody petitioner” and warned that Adeboye could now be dragged into court to testify.
The lawyer emphasized that pastors should not use law enforcement as a tool for personal vendettas, stating that “vengeance should be of the Lord, not of the police.”
Effiong concluded by stating that his legal team is prepared to file a fundamental rights enforcement suit, with Pastor Adeboye named as a respondent if RCCG does not withdraw its statement within 24 hours.
He urged religious leaders to uphold Christian values and avoid abusing their influence to suppress critics. Further legal actions, he said, would be communicated in due course.
