The Canadian High Commission in Nigeria has responded to reports regarding the visa denial of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa.
In a statement issued on Friday, February 14, the High Commission acknowledged media reports on the matter but declined to provide specific details, citing privacy policies.
The statement read, “The High Commission of Canada in Nigeria is aware of media reports related to planned travel by senior officials.

“However, for privacy reasons, we are unable to comment on the status of visa applications of specific individuals.’
General Musa had disclosed during a meeting that he was scheduled to travel to Canada with other senior military officers for an event honouring veterans. While some officers were granted visas, he and a few others were denied.

The development has sparked reactions from top Nigerian officials. National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu described the action as an embarrassment to Nigeria, while Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo also expressed displeasure.
Ribadu, in a strong reaction, reportedly stated that Canada could “go to hell” over the visa denial.
