Senator Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has won the Bayelsa State governorship election with a landslide victory.
Douye Diri won in six out of the eight local government areas of the state, while his closest challenger, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress (APC), won only two LGAs.
Diri’s victory was evident after the collation of the election results from all eight local government areas of the State on Monday afternoon.
The state’s Returning Officer, Prof. Faruq Kuta, announced that Diri had won the election with a margin of 65,088 votes ahead of Sylva.

With his victory, he will now serve a second term as governor of Bayelsa State. He is expected to continue to work on improving the lives of the people of the state and making Bayelsa a better place to live and work.
