The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has called for urgent upgrades at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) due to its ageing infrastructure.
During his first inspection tour of MMIA, Ganduje, accompanied by FAAN’s Managing Director, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, acknowledged that many of the airport’s facilities and equipment are obsolete.
He assured stakeholders that the board would work with FAAN’s management to modernize infrastructure and align it with global standards.

Ganduje stated, “There are pressing issues, but discussions have already begun on how to resolve them. Airports in developed countries thrive on continuous improvement, visionary management, and investment in modern technology, which is what we aim to achieve here.”
He further noted that several past projects remain abandoned due to inflation and rising costs, adding that FAAN has developed strategies to address these challenges.
Mrs. Kuku highlighted FAAN’s ongoing nationwide airport rehabilitation efforts, noting that they are already producing positive results.
“We have introduced several explosive detection devices to enhance security across the country’s airports. Also, terminal rehabilitation projects are progressing, and we expect to complete and commission several of them in the coming months,” she said.
