French President Emmanuel Macron has vowed to urge U.S. President Donald Trump to reconsider tariffs that could hurt allied nations, as tensions rise over U.S. trade policies.
Speaking at the French Agriculture Show on Saturday, Macron emphasized the need for cooperation among allies and expressed concern over Trump’s threats to impose new tariffs on European Union products.
“I will explain to him that between allies, you don’t make each other suffer with tariffs,” Macron stated during a visit to the French Agriculture Show ahead of a meeting Monday in Washington with Trump who has threatened to impose tariffs on a number of EU products.

“I will talk to him about this because we need to calm things down,” Macron said. “Agriculture is one of France’s great export businesses.”
Macron is set to meet Trump in Washington on Monday, aiming to ease trade tensions and prevent further economic strain on EU partners.
