The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has provisionally recognised World Boxing as the new governing body for Olympic boxing, replacing the International Boxing Association (IBA).
The decision, announced on Wednesday, follows the IOC’s severance of ties with the IBA due to financial, governance, and ethical concerns.
The IOC had taken over the organisation of boxing events at the Paris Olympics after removing the IBA, which is led by Kremlin-linked Russian Umar Kremlev.

World Boxing, established in 2023, now has 78 member nations, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, and Brazil.
IOC President Thomas Bach previously warned that boxing’s national federations needed to find a new and “reliable” international partner to secure the sport’s place at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
In a statement, the IOC acknowledged World Boxing’s commitment to good governance and compliance with required standards, paving the way for its role as the sport’s new amateur federation.
