Ayo Adebanjo: Afenifere Disowns Oba Oladipo as New Leader

The Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and socio-political organization has distanced itself from reports of the alleged appointment of Oba Oladipo Olaitan as the new leader of the group.

Earlier reports claimed that Oba Olaitan had been appointed as the new leader of Afenifere following the death of Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

The appointment was said to have been announced in a communiqué issued by the organization after its recent monthly general meeting held in Isanya Ogbo, Ogun State.

Delegates from several South West states, as well as Kogi and Kwara from the North Central, were reportedly present.

However, in a statement to DAILY POST, Afenifere’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Jare Ajayi, clarified that there is “no vacuum in the leadership of Afenifere.”

He emphasized that the only recognized national leader of the Yoruba nation is Chief Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, who remains “hale and hearty” and continues to provide strong leadership to the organization, “to the glory of God.”

“In a situation where there is no vacuum, how do you talk of filling a vacancy that does not exist?

“A king is not appointed when the incumbent is still very much on the stool”, he said.

Ajayi further emphasized that Afenifere has a specific procedure for appointing its leader, stressing that the way the appointment was announced on Tuesday “is foreign to Afenifere’s tradition.”

The Afenifere spokesperson also mentioned that the organization is still in mourning following the loss of one of its most respected leaders, Chief Ayo Adebanjo.
