Bola Tinubu has expressed pride in Nigeria’s progress, stating that people are speaking positively about the country despite its current economic challenges.
Tinubu made this remark on Friday while addressing the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Tinubu acknowledged the difficult economic conditions but emphasized that his administration’s policies, including the removal of fuel subsidy, were necessary for the nation’s long-term stability.
“Yes, removing the fuel subsidy was hard, tough for me, but it’s a hard choice that Nigeria must face. We are not going to bankrupt our country,” Tinubu said in a statement released by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga.
He claimed that the country is beginning to witness positive outcomes from his policies, pointing to increased foreign investments, improved competition in the petroleum sector, and better agricultural yields.

“There is hope; people are coming in to invest. They are saying good things about Nigeria. I am very proud of that. What seems to be a very difficult beginning is now showing us hope. And we are not even at half-time yet,” he said.
Addressing concerns of religious favoritism, Tinubu assured the Catholic bishops that he remains neutral.
“This insecurity affects everyone—Christians, Muslims alike. I have no religious bias; I won’t be a bigot. My wife is a pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church,” he stated.
He further asserted that security agencies are working to curb the rising insecurity, though many Nigerians continue to express doubt given the surge in violent attacks, kidnappings, and killings across the country.
While the President painted an optimistic picture of Nigeria’s economic trajectory, the realities on the ground tell a different story. Since the removal of the fuel subsidy, inflation has soared, food prices have hit record highs, and the Naira has weakened against the dollar. Businesses are struggling, and millions of Nigerians have been pushed further into poverty.
