Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Labour Party 2023 Lagos State gubernatorial candidate has condemned the threats against a female corps member, Raye Oduala, for criticizing Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration over Nigeria’s economic hardship.
In a statement shared on social media, Rhodes-Vivour asserted that any effort to silence her is a direct attack on the fundamental rights of all Nigerians.
He emphasized that Nigeria is a constitutional democracy, not a monarchy, and citizens have both a moral and constitutional right to express dissenting views on governance.
Rhodes-Vivour highlighted the suffering of Nigerian youths, who he said are enduring severe deprivation due to the failures of the political class.
He accused corrupt and incompetent leaders of not only inflicting economic hardship on the people but also seeking to dictate how citizens react to their struggles.
He pointed out that beyond causing suffering, the government expects people to remain silent or even applaud their oppression.

He further criticized what he described as an attempt to normalize mediocrity, urging Nigerians to resist efforts to suppress their voices.
According to him, the right to criticize the government is a fundamental democratic principle, and no citizen should be threatened for expressing their grievances.
He called on Nigerians to reject oppression, stating that citizens are not slaves but free people with rights that must be defended.
Rhodes-Vivour declared his full support for Raye Oduala, insisting that those in power must be held accountable.
His statement adds to the growing backlash against the NYSC and government authorities, with many Nigerians demanding that freedom of speech be upheld.
The incident has further intensified debates on the shrinking civic space under the Tinubu administration, as calls for justice continue to gain momentum.
