Bola Tinubu has announced the cancellation of the controversial 40% deduction of Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) from federal universities across the country.
Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, conveyed this decision during the 75th Founder’s Day ceremony at the University of Ibadan.
He described the policy implementation as “ill-timed” and highlighted the challenges currently faced by the nation’s universities.

Speaking in his capacity as the Visitor to the University of Ibadan, Tinubu expressed his commitment to reforming the country’s education sector, recognizing its pivotal role in national development.
He declared, “The 40% IGR automatic deduction policy stands cancelled. This is not the best time for such a policy since our universities are struggling.”
