A guest lecturer at the Women’s Week of the Nasrul-Lahi-Fathi Society (NASFAT), Doka branch, Kaduna, has called on Muslim associations to establish more marriage counselling centres across the country.
Fatima Bakari made the call on Sunday while delivering a lecture on the theme “Marriage: A Blessing or a Curse?” at the maiden edition of the event.
She said that marriage counselling centres would help Muslim couples to have successful and lasting marriages based on Islamic principles.
She advised couples to devote more time to worshipping Allah in their first two years of marriage, quoting the Quranic verse: “Remember Me, and I will remember you.” (Quran 2:152)
She said that such prayers should seek Allah’s guidance for mutual love, trust and understanding, which are the essence of marriage.
She also urged married and intending couples to communicate effectively and create positive memories of their relationship.
The Muslim group expressed concern over the negative impact of social media on marriages, and advised couples to always fear Allah and follow His commands, as that would strengthen their homes.

The chairman of the occasion, Isiaku Yusuf, praised the women’s wing for organising the event, and encouraged the members to be committed to serving Allah in their actions.
The women’s affairs secretary, Basirat Seidu, thanked the guest lecturer and the participants, and reminded them to reflect on the lessons learnt during the week.
She also advised couples to choose their life partners based on love and piety, and not on ethnic or tribal considerations.
