Benjamin Mendy Drags Manchester City to Court Over Unsettled Wages

Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy has initiated legal proceedings against the Premier League club, alleging non-payment of wages.

The French international is reportedly seeking a substantial claim, potentially running into millions of pounds, for wages that he asserts were not paid during the period from August 2021 to June 2023.

Mendy’s career took a hit when he was accused of multiple counts of rape and attempted rape in October 2020.

However, he was subsequently cleared of these charges.

Despite his acquittal, Manchester City suspended Mendy, and he alleges that he has not received any wages since September 2021.

The 29-year-old footballer is now embroiled in a quest to recover millions of pounds in back pay from the club.

His agent is currently engaged in negotiations with Manchester City to secure the back pay, which is estimated to be in the region of £9 million–£10 million gross.

Adding to the complexity of the situation, Mendy is also grappling with financial challenges. He is reportedly selling his house in a bid to stave off bankruptcy.

The property, located in the affluent county of Cheshire, is being marketed by the estate agent Savills for £5 million.

Mendy parted ways with Manchester City in June upon the expiration of his contract and has since inked a two-year deal with Lorient.
