The Nasarawa State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 27 suspects in a bid to crack down on cult-related activities in the Lafia area of the state.
The Commandant of the NSCDC in Nasarawa, Bappa Abbas Muhammed, announced the arrests at a press conference where the alleged cultists were displayed to the media.
He said that the arrests were made following the rising cases of cult-related violence in different parts of the state, which claimed one life and left another person injured.
He added that the injured person was receiving medical attention, while the deceased had been buried according to Islamic rites.
Muhammed expressed his dissatisfaction with the prevalence of cultism in the state, especially in Lafia, and said that the NSCDC had devised a new strategy to combat the menace in all the 13 local government areas of the state.
