Fate of December Salaries of 5,000 Federal Civil Servants hangs in the Balance

Approximately 5,000 federal civil servants face the risk of not receiving their December salaries due to discrepancies in their dates of first appointment and dates of birth.

The National President of the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria, Tommy Okon, revealed that the union is collaborating with the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to resolve the issue.

While 2,772 workers have successfully undergone verification and been reinstated into the payroll, the fate of the remaining 5,000 is contingent upon confirmation from Directors of Human Resources.

Okon urged affected union members to exercise patience, emphasizing the union’s commitment to resolving the matter promptly within the legal framework.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, he highlighted the conclusion of the physical verification exercise for 17,000 core civil servants delisted from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System in October 2023. Despite efforts, the November salaries of those affected are already withheld, with hopes pinned on the Federal Government expediting actions to ensure the timely disbursement of December salaries, along with arrears from September.
