Boko Haram Commander and Over 100 Terrorists Killed in Nigerian Air Force Strike

The Nigerian Military announced on Saturday that it had killed Abu Asad, a notorious Boko Haram Commander, and over 100 of his followers in an airstrike on Friday. The strike was part of Operation Hadin Kai, a joint military operation against the Islamist insurgents in the northeast of the country.

According to a statement signed by Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the director of public relations of the Nigerian Air Force, the airstrike targeted a gathering of terrorists in an isolated location with three zinced structures and four troop carriers. The statement said that the terrorists were either planning a meeting or preparing for a major attack on the Nigerian troops.

Before the strike

The statement added that the footage of the airstrike showed that two of the three structures and all the troop carriers were destroyed. It also confirmed that Abu Asad, a key figure in the Ali Ngulde group under Boko Haram, and several of his fighters were among the casualties.

After the strike

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, praised the Air Component Commander and his men for the successful strike. He also urged them to continue to work with the Land Component to maintain the momentum in the fight against the terrorists.

He said, “We must continue to justify the trust and confidence the Federal Government and our people have bestowed on us by ensuring that we go all out in making life unbearable for these terrorists and criminals until they surrender or are completely eliminated.” #Boko Haram
