Tinubu Not Different From Abacha — NADECO

The National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), USA branch has likened Bola Tinubu to the late General Sani Abacha following the former’s dictatorial tendency.

Mr Lloyd Ugwu, the Executive Director of NADECO made the assertion in a recent virtual address on X (formerly Twitter).

NADECO, Nigeria’s premier pro-democracy group, was formed in the aftermath of the annulled June 12, 1993, election won by MKO Abiola.

The group’s primary goal has always been to uphold democracy, the rule of law, good governance, and accountability in Nigeria.

In his address, Mr Ugwu recounted the history of NADECO, highlighting its formation in the United States in 1994 during the oppressive regime of General Sani Abacha. Many of its members had fled Nigeria due to persecution, with some being assassinated or imprisoned.

Mr. Ugwu, who served as the general council at the time of NADECO’s formation in the US, emphasized that the group’s goal in 1993 was to oust General Abacha, who had illegitimately seized power.

Fast forward to 2023, and Mr Ugwu asserts that NADECO’s goal remains unchanged.

However, the target has shifted from a military dictator to a civilian leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to Mr Ugwu, Tinubu, who was part of the struggle against Abacha in 1993, has ironically found himself in a similar position as the late dictator.

He accused Tinubu of illegitimately and fraudulently assuming the presidency, likening his actions to those of General Abacha.

Mr Ugwu declared NADECO’s commitment to ensuring that history repeats itself, with the group poised to oust Tinubu just as they did Abacha.

He also dismissed the idea of waiting for the 2027 or 2031 elections, insisting that Tinubu must be removed immediately.
