Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has urged the people of the state to recite and memorise the Qur’an as a way of combating the insecurity in the state.
He made this appeal in his message at the opening ceremony of the 27th Zamfara Qur’anic Recitation Competition.
The governor said that the recitation and memorization of the holy book had a significant impact on promoting peace and stability in the state.
He said the Qur’an contained the teachings and guidance of Allah, which could help the people overcome the challenges and threats posed by the bandits.
He said his administration was supporting the Qur’anic competition to produce more Qur’anic reciters and memorizers who would spread the message of Islam and foster harmony and unity among the people.
He also encouraged the Muslims in the state to always follow the teachings of the Qur’an and pray for divine intervention to end the insecurity in the state.
The governor’s appeal came after bandits kidnapped 100 men, women and children from Mutunji village in Maru Local Government Area on Friday.
According to reports, the bandits demanded a N50 million protection fee from the villagers, which they failed to pay.
The bandits, led by their notorious leader Damina, stormed the village on motorbikes after the evening prayers and abducted the villagers.
