Govenor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum announced that the number of repentant Boko Haram insurgents has reached 160,000.

During a courtesy call by Defence Minister Muhammadu Abubakar and his entourage, the governor emphasized the positive impact of continuous military operations, stating, “About 160,000 Boko Haram (insurgents) have so far repented. This could not have been possible without the continuous onslaught of the military on them.”

Governor Zulum acknowledged the existing threat, noting that while Boko Haram insurgents still exist, they are not as formidable. He highlighted the improved security situation in the state, declaring, “Generally, the security situation in Borno State has tremendously improved.”

Expressing concern about regional challenges, particularly in the Lake Chad basin, Zulum urged measures to control light arms proliferation. He emphasized the need to prevent safe havens for insurgents, stating, “The only way we can degrade the insurgents and clear the Chad Basin of insurgency is by upscaling and continuous military operations.”
