The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed a cannabis farm measuring three acres in Sayinna town, Sokoto state. The agency also arrested a 32-year-old suspect, Anas Sani Sayinna, who confessed to planting the illegal crop in a maize farm.
The Commandant of NDLEA Sokoto Command, Mr Adamu Iro, revealed this to journalists at a briefing held at the state command headquarters on Saturday. He said that the agency acted on intelligence reports and raided the farm, where they uprooted the cannabis plants and seized some seeds.
Mr Iro said that Sokoto has a history of cultivating marijuana, but with the recent operation, the state is trying to rid itself of the notorious reputation of being one of the producers of the illicit substance. He warned that the agency would not relent in its efforts to clamp down on drug traffickers and cultivators in the state.

The suspect, Anas Sani Sayinna, said that he brought the cannabis seeds from Lagos six months ago, and planted them in his maize farm, hoping to make some money from the sale. He expressed regret for his action and advised his colleagues and others who are involved or planning to engage in the cultivation of the drug-related crop to desist and engage in legal and meaningful ventures that will make them self-reliant and successful. #NDLEA
